About the course
The Certification Assessment is delivered in person 9am – 5pm in Ferntree Gully at our training centre, and includes supervised visits into the local community. The assessment includes realistic scenarios and simulations in small groups, followed by community visits in the afternoon. Teams graduate as Visiting Therapy Dogs (Level 2) or Advanced (Level 4) depending on the handler's prior training, and dog's current level of competence. Teams who fail to pass the Level 2 Assessment may be granted Learner Certification if appropriate. Please bring your dog's existing coat/bandana to wear during the community visit.
Pre-requisites
Dogs must have completed Level 2 (or above), be at least 12 months of age and meet all suitability criteria to sit the Certification Assessment. They must have an up-to-date vet check (valid for 6 months) including vaccinations and parasite control. Handlers are required to hold a valid Working With Children Check (or equivalent) to participate in assessments and community visits with members of the public.
